“Making racehorse ownership affordable, fun and entertaining”
If you’re looking to join a syndicate as a first time owner we warmly invite you to join the goHarness family and be apart of the successful horses we have had.
From selecting the appropriate syndicate for your requirements to visiting them at the stables, watching them at the races then leading them into the winners circle, owning a race horse is truly an exciting experience.
goHarness does all the leg work for you by:
Selecting an appropriate horse/s
Selecting a reputable and knowledgable trainer
Undertaking all administration services
Providing regular and transparent updates via email, video and pictures
How does a syndicate work:
A syndicate is managed by an approved Syndicate manager on behalf of its members. The manager is responsible for the the communication between the trainer and members, providing up to date information and running the logistically and finical side of the syndicate. As a member your details are shared with Harness Racing New Zealand as an offical owner for them to provide updates and free entry tickets to all meetings your horse/s may be attending. At the start of the syndicate members choose to either make a one off lump sum payment or a monthly payment which then covers the associated fees of owning and training a race horse. Any stakes that are received are then paid out to the syndicate annually.
Risks vs Rewards of being a syndicate member:
Risks: Horses are not machines, they're animals, and every racetrack appearance they make is only the 'tip of the iceberg' compared to how much training and fitness work they've undergone in preparation for these starts. So with the amount of physical activity required, unfortunately there's always a slim chance of a horse sustaining an injury somewhere along the way - or any number of other 'issues' that can (and do) affect their racing ability and/or potential.
Injuries etc can be anything from something minor, which may require little more than a couple of injections from the vet to rectify - right through to a serious injury that results in the death of a horse. All horses syndicated under the goHarness banner are insured in case of death.
Being involved in racehorse ownership certainly offers a lot in return - especially when it comes to the enjoyment you'll have and the friendships you'll make. In fact, ask any existing syndicate member and they'll probably tell you that these are the two best reasons!
As far as the financial side of things is concerned - yes, there can be rewards here as well; numerous horses do end up generating a financial return for their owners (from stakes won and/or the price a horse fetches when it's re-sold). However, we strongly suggest you enter into this type of ownership with no expectations of making a capital gain - then if you do make a gain, it's a bonus.
Stable visits and Functions:
As well as owning a racehorse, goHarness provides many social opportunities. These include annual blue parties, picnics at the races, Christmas Parties as well as stable visits. Each trainer has an open door policy and we encourage you to take the time to go and visit your horse/s in there training environment and spend the morning learning and chatting with the trainer.
